Steven L. Solomon, MD

Dr. Solomon is the Director of the Coordinating Center for Health Information and Service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Prior to joining the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the CDC in 1981, Dr. Solomon was in the private practice of internal medicine and infectious diseases.

Dr. Solomon has held several positions at the CDC developing, conducting, and directing collaborative research and demonstration programs with academic institutions, hospitals, and health systems, and state and local health departments. He has recently focused on health systems research and using information technology to evaluate and improve health services. He has represented the CDC on expert panels for a number of national organizations. From 2001 to 2003, Dr. Solomon served as Chair of the Patient Safety Task Force of the Department of Health and Human Services. His clinical appointment is at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He served as Acting Director of CDC's Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion from 2002 to 2003, at which time he became CDC's Associate Director for Health Systems. In 2004 Dr. Solomon was appointed Acting Director of CDC's new National Center for Health Marketing. He was selected to his current position in September 2005.
